About Milan
Milan is the capital of the Lombardy region and the first most populous city in Italy. The population of the city proper is 1.3 million while the urban area is 5.5 million, the 5th-largest in the EU. The Milan metropolitan area, known as Greater Milan, is a polycentric area of 7 to 10 million people. Milan is part of the so-called Blue Banana: in terms of GDP, the city has the 3rd-largest economy among EU cities after London and Paris, and the largest among European non-capital cities.
